PURPOSE:To obtain a reconstructed image without any artifact by providing auxiliary PMTs (photomultiplier tubes) which are in close contact with adjacent radiation detectors and are also optically coupled to the detectors at verteces of a polygon of a detector unit. CONSTITUTION:Auxiliary scintillators 8 are inserted into the spaces between scintillators 2 and 2'', they are optically coupled to scintillator ends of the scintillators 2 and 2'', and auxiliary PMTs 9 are provided and optically coupled to the auxiliary scintillators 8. By detecting scintillation light which enters through some of these auxiliary scintillators 8 and further scintillation light which is generated within some of the auxiliary scintillators 8, dead zones at the peripheral parts of the scintillators can be reduced.
