The invention concerns an apparatus for image coding, primarily intended to be used in the transmission of video signals for videotelephony. The video signal is converted into a digital bit flow by digitization and compression. The apparatus according to the invention comprises at least a first circuit and a second circuit, where the first circuit is connected to the second circuit via an interface, which makes possible the adaptation of the functions of the first circuit to the functions of the second circuit. The first circuit and the interface are preferably contained in the same integrated circuit. The invention solves the problem of providing a general circuit which can be used in image coding apparatus. The circuit according to the invention is general and can be used as a module by system designers. The general circuit can be used in many different image coding systems. <IMAGE> |
