An arrangement for measuring the content of mercury in a gas flow comprises a chamber 3, a line 6 connecting the latter to a probe 1, a light source 27 for illuminating the gas flowing through the chamber 3 with ultraviolet light for the purpose of exciting mercury atoms present in the gas, a detector 4 for detecting the energy which is transmitted from the excited mercury atoms, and a computer 5 for recording the detected energy. Arranged in the line 6, before the chamber 3, is a converter 2 with the function of converting oxidized mercury present in the gas into elemental, metallic mercury. The line 6 has, in the region between the probe 1 and the converter 2, heat insulation 11 in order to counteract cooling of the gas during transport between these units. Arranged immediately after the converter 2 is a device 20 for rapidly cooling the gas before it reaches the chamber 3 and thus counteracting reoxidation of the elemental metallic mercury obtained by heat treatment in the converter 2 before illumination and detection. <IMAGE> |
