PURPOSE:To provide a cellulose derivative latex of excellent stability and a process for its preparation. CONSTITUTION:The title latex is obtained by dissolving a cellulose derivative containing anionic functional groups (desirably carboxymethyl cellulose or carboxymethyl methyl cellulose) in a water-immiscible organic solvent, mixing the obtained solution with water in the presence of an alkali, and removing the organic solvent from the obtained dispersion. By adding a small amount of an alkali in forming the dispersion, the emulsification and suspension times can be markedly shortened, and the dispersion stability of the obtained latex can be markedly improved. This latex is used as, e.g. a coating agent for foods or pharmaceuticals. |
