The apparatus fades in/out the audio signal, sets the duration of fading freely and displays the duration time to expand the function of a digital audio recorder. It includes a recording side attenuator (11) connected between a switch (SW1) and a digital signal processor (7) to attenuate the digital recording signal selected by the switch (SW1), a reproducing side attenuator (12) to attenuate the digital recording signal from the digital signal processor (7), a microprocessor (8) for controlling the two attenuators (11,12), and a duration set/display section (14) for displaying the time set.
