PURPOSE:To determine the number of living cells of an aerobic microorganism suspending in water by collecting the microorganism with a nonwoven fabric coated with a water-insoluble pyridinium resin and detecting the oxygen consumption of the microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A nonwoven fabric 30 coated with a water-insoluble pyridinium resin is placed at the sensing part of an oxygen electrode 10. A specimen liquid containing microorganism is introduced through an inlet pipe 24 and discharged through an exhaust pipe 25. The number of living cells in the specimen liquid is determined based on the variation in the detection output of the oxygen electrode caused by the oxygen consumption of the microorganism collected on the nonwoven fabric. |
