PURPOSE:To relieve sudden changes in engine output torque due to opening or closing of a swirl control valve without increasing fuel consumption in a variable intake control unit of an internal combustion engine which generates an intake swirl inside a combustion chamber by means of the swirl control valve. CONSTITUTION:While a swirl control valve(SCV)32 is opened, a variable intake control valve (IACV)35 is closed at the same time that a condition of opening the valve is satisfied and then the SCV 32 is opened at roughly the same time that engine output torque is decreased by opening the IACY35 (when a period of time T) elapses after a condition of closing the valve is satisfied). Thereby torque reduction due to closing of the IACV35 and torque increase due to opening of the SCV 32 cancel out each other and sudden change in the torque (TRQ) when the swirl control valve 32 is opened is relieved and changes in engine speed (NE) and throttle aperture(TA) are also relieved. Similar operation is performed when the SCV 32 is closed. |
