PURPOSE:To produce an alumina-based combined sintered compact having higher hardness than a conventional one by pressureless sintering without using a sintering aid. CONSTITUTION:Al2O3 powder of <=0.05mum average particle diameter is mixed with 3-10vol.% SiC powder of <=0.05mum average particle diameter and this powdery mixture is fired at 1,150-1,350 deg.C in an inert atmosphere, crushed and compacted. The resulting compact is subjected to pressureless sintering at 1,500-1,700 deg.C in an inert atmosphere to produce the objective alumina-based combined sintered compact having <=2% porosity. |
