PURPOSE: To obtain composite material which is excellent in appearance, hardness, impact resistance, strength, and water repellency by impregnating wood fiber material with maltodextrin, having maltodextrin cross-linked or cured, and making the cross-link product substantially insoluble. CONSTITUTION: Wood fiber material is impregnated with maltodextrin with the dextrose equivalence of 100 or less, and the maltodextrin is cross-linked or cured to make the cross-link product substantially insoluble, to form the composite material. The impregnation of wood fiber material with maltodextrin is carried out together with a cross-link material containing at least one of, for example, hydroxy group or alkylation hydroxy group. This method can be used to increase the density of lumber such as reconstruction wooden products including solid wood particle board, fiber board, and wafer board regardless of whether hard material or soft material. |
