Process for cleaning bulk goods comprises: (a) shaking the bulk goods into a conveying tube (at reduced pressure); (b) treating the goods in the tube with a disinfectant; (c) separating coarse components from fine-grained components by sieving. Appts. for cleaning bulk goods comprises a shaking region (10), a conveying tube (12), a storage container (14) with a disinfectant (16) which is linked with a dosing unit (22) in the tube via a duct (18) and a dosing appts. (20), and a sieve (28) at the end (24) of the tube. The goods are pref. treated with ozone, water and a disinfectant (which is an aq. soln. of a combination of cpds. of formula (A), (B) and (C) in the ratio 1:0.2-0.5:0.01-0.05). Bz = benzyl; R = 7-8C alkyl; R1, R2 = 1-4C alkyl; m, n = 1, 2 or 3. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process and appts. can be used e.g. in cleaning sand pits present in children's playgrounds. Cleaning can take place in situ so that this is cheaper than complete replacmenet of the sand in the pit. It allows removal of impurities, such as glass, paper, metal parts, bacteria and fungi.
