This is a speed change control lever device for a bicycle, wherein a lever shaft (9) extending downwardly is provided on a bracket (6a) mounted in a position close to a grip portion formed at an end portion of a handle bar (1), and a tubular body portion (7) is coupled onto the lever shaft (9) so that a lever body having the tubular body portion (7) and a control arm (8) extending from the outer periphery of the tubular body portion (7) in a radially outward direction is rotatably supported by the lever shaft (9), wherein speed change operations can be performed in a state of gripping the grip portion (2) of the handle bar (1), the rotation control range of the control arm (8) is enlarged to increase the number of the speed change stages, and the following measures are taken for the purpose of smoothly carrying out the rotation control of the control arm (8): namely, a forwardly extending portion (6b) is provided on the bracket (6a), so that the lever shaft (9) is forwardly displaced with respect to the axis of the handle bar (1) and a free end of the lever shaft (9) is inclined so as to be displaced from a straight line passing through the proximal end (9b) of the lever shaft (9) and perpendicularly intersecting the forwardly extending portion (6b). |
