The pipe connection has a sleeve (4) engaging round the connecting area and supporting at both end areas locking elements eg split tension rings (8) which can be reduced in diameter and which are held axially in keyed engagement by the socket in order to axially fix the pipe ends (1, 2). The sealing element (7) extends between the locking elements through the sleeve (4) on the outside and through the pipe ends (1, 2) on the inside. The sleeve is pref. formed from a middle cylindrical section (5) and radially outwardly curved end sections (6) where by an annular space for the sealing element is formed between the inside of the sleeve and the outside of the pipe ends.
