The alignment mechanismechanism for X-ray appts. has a secondary radiation mask, a scatter ray grid usable as desired, and a shaft in which the film cassette is inserted. The mask comprises two mask plates, in parallel planes and adjustable by a mechanism in relation to each other. Each plate has an aperture which can be partly masked by the other plate. One of the apertures contains the grid.
