Light construction plate made by binding together plant stalks - used as e.g. ceiling covering, acoustic wall, etc.

Light construction plate is made of plant stalks having high pulp content which are bonded together. The stalks are initially defoliated and orginate from C4 or C3 type plants, esp. scirpus lacustris. The plant stalks may run perpendicular or parallel to the plate surface and the binder which fills up the area between stalks in a natural material such as natural bitumen or white glue. The binder is pref. mixed with a colouring agent and a filler such as ground leaves of the plant. The surface of the plate is pref. painted or coated with a material based on sterilised lime colours. The plant stalks may be treated with a flame retarding agent. The edges of the plates are sealed or surrounded with a ply wood frame. The plates are produced by placing the stalks together to form a block, dipping in a binding agent bath, pressing the whole together without damaging the stalks and hardening before cutting into thin plates by sawing parallel or perpendicular to the stalk axes. USE/ADVANTAGE - As wall and ceiling coverings, separation walls, acoustic walls in concert halls, and cinemas and heat retardant element. Produced by simple and economic method and is ecologically acceptible.
