The seal assembly for a shaft (1) that can be magnetised includes an elastic seal ring (3) which is pressed against the shaft surface by a spring ring. Opposite the sealed space (M), the seal assembly also includes a coaxial ring magnet (6). A magnetic pole flange ring (8) which extends radially inwards from the ring magnet (6), forms a ring gap around the shaft (1). A ferrous fluid (7) which is retained in the ring gap produces a secondary haft seal.
