The shrinking foil (2) mechanism (1) comprises at least one heater (6,7) which is directed at a limited surface area of the foil and is gradually moved vertically upwards relative to the support (8) for a palletized pack (3-5) by a control unit (20). At the lower edge (29) of the foil, the limited surface area extends over only part the periphery of the wrapped foil. The extension is less than 180 deg, pref. less than 90 deg, or rather less than 10 deg. In addition to the vertical movement of this area, i.e. the relative heated movement, it is movable over the periphery portion not initially covered.
