The red light emitting fluorescent material of AlBO3:Eu, M [M=In,Ga and/or Sm , having 10 % afterglow time of 15-30 ms is manufactured by (a) mixing 1 mol aluminium oxide with 0.7-0.7 mol boron cpd., 0.001-0.1 mol curopium oxide as an activating agent, 0.0001-0.4 mol In,Ga and/or Sm cpd., and 0.001 mol lithium borate (Li2B4O7), sodium fluoride (NaF) or barium fluoride (BaF2) as a flux, (b) firing the mixt. under the atmosphere at 400-600 deg.C for 1 hr, at 700-800 deg.C for 1-3 hr, at 1000-1200 deg.C for 1-3 hr and 1400-1600 deg.C for 1-3 hr, and (c) adding a thin hydrochloric acid to the obtd. fluorescent material to remove a residual flux and a boron cpd. The fluorescent material is used in a cathode ray tube for the display.
