A device for applying glued labels to a continuous web or moving workpieces, preferably to the lifted up and still open bottoms (12) of bags (13) comprises pairs of moving-up rollers (2,3,19,20) for a web of material and devices for perforating (4) and tearing or devices for separating the labels from the web of material (1) and an accepting folding tongs cylinder (6) for the acceptance and subsequent delivery of the labels or sleeves. So that additional labels can be applied, an intermediate cylinder (7) is arranged between an application folding tongs cylinder (9) which applies the labels and the accepting folding cylinder (6) and together with the application folding tongs cylinder (9) forms a nip into which labels torn from a second web of material (10) along perforated lines pass and which delivers the labels torn from the first and the second webs of material to the continuous web or the moving workpieces (12), the said labels at least partly overlapping one another.
