A fibhre reinforced titanium ally is formed by depositing a first layer of alloy powder by radio frequency plasma spray, disposing a mat of filament reinforcement on the layer, depositing a second alloy layer on the first and disposing a second filament mat then ratio frequency spraying a top alloy layer onto the composite. The composite is then hot isostatically pressed.
