A connecting member 15 is locked between spaced parts of a vehicle, at least one of which parts is required to be movable when the vehicle is driven, for example the steering wheel 14 or the gear lever 18. The chain 15 is locked with a lock 16 for example between any two of studs 12, 13 and 19 to limit movement and prevent the vehicle being driven away by a would-be thief. The securing means is a deterrent to a thief as it can be seen through the vehicle window, and the chain 15 and lock 16 can be stored conveniently in a compartment 17 on the dashboard 11 when not in use. The chain may also be attached to a fixed part of the vehicle 12 which may also be located in the compartment 17. <IMAGE>
