Both ends of a pull cable are attached to a cable drum which has a drive shaft rotatably mounted in a fixture plate, to drive a pinion combining with an internally serrated ring, to provide drive for raising and lowering window panes, esp. in motor vehicles. The drive shaft (5) is sited off-centre. A lug (10) and fitting hole actively connect it to a ring-shaped disc (11) bearing the pinion (12) on the side away from the shaft. The serrated ring (13) is located inside the cable drum. The shaft pref. has ring-segment attachments on its inner end, extending between similar ones on a round plate with an off-centre hole to hold a lug on the disc. This can be effective both as reduction and step-up gearing, and is compact, with min. components.
