PRESS ROLL APPARATUS AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME

The press roll apparatus 10 presses a web 13 between paired press rolls 11 and 12. At least one 11 of the press rolls includes a support 21 and an outer cell 22 mounted around the support 21 with opposite ends thereof made integral with the opposite ends of the support 21 such as to be spaced apart by a predetermined gap from an intermediate portion of the support 21. The support 21 has a sufficient bending rigidity in the roll axis direction. The outer cell 22 is capable of solenoidal elastic deformation in the roll circumference direction within the range of the gap with respect to the support 21.
