The invention relates to a collar for an animal, especially for a large dog, such as a sheepdog, watchdog or hunting dog. According to the invention, the collar (1) consists of at least one strap (2) with a buckle (3) which can be fitted to the neck of the animal. It further includes integrated means (8, 9) for forming either a handle (6), or a short leash (7), for leading the animal, without in any way inconveniencing it when it is not being led.
