PURPOSE:To reduce the package volume of an air bag by providing the circular portion, the peripheral wall portion and the flange portion of a first shell with an outer surface having no protrusion, and providing the circular portion with an inclined or curved outer face at its peripheral edge portion. CONSTITUTION:The circular portion 1b, the peripheral wall portion 1c and the flange portion 1a of a diffuser shell 1 have a surface having no protrusion. The surface have no protrusion that projects therefrom. The circular portion 1b has an inclined outer face 1d at its peripheral edge portion. Therefore the gas producer is smoothened at its peripheral edge portion and its outer face is extended gently from the circular portion 1b to the peripheral wall portion 1c. The diffuser shell 1 is joined to a closure shell 3 by welding. The welded portion of the diffuser shell 1 is formed in the portion of the shell 1 opposite to a portion to which an air bag 10 is attached, i.e., the inner surface side of the diffuser shell. |
