PURPOSE:To stop a vehicle in favourable manner by forming a neutral state at the optimum time point if the engine revolution speed is equal or higher than the turbine revolution speed in a torque converter, even in the case where the shift range of an automatic transmission is set at an advance traveling range. CONSTITUTION:A controller during the stop of a vehicle stops the vehicle by generating the neutral state if a prescribed condition is established even in the case where the shift range of an automatic transmission is selected at an advance traveling range. In this device, the engine revolution speed is detected by an engine revolution speed detecting means. Further, the turbine revolution speed in a torque converter is detected by a turbine revolution speed detecting means. In the relation between the engine revolution speed and the turbine revolution speed, the condition of the engine revolution speed >= turbine revolution speed is set, and this condition is set as one of the prescribed conditions. Accordingly, neutral control at the optimum time point is executed in spite of the variation of the engine revolution speed. |
