PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing a beta-SIALON-based sintered compact having ultrahigh strength within a high-temperature region. CONSTITUTION:A specific amount (1-15 pts.wt. total amount) of AlN powder and Yb2O3 powder are added to beta-SIALON powder at a specific blending ratio [(4/1) to (1/3) weight ratio of the AlN/Yb2O3] and the resultant mixture is formed and then sintered. Thereby, the objective beta-SIALON-based sintered compact having ultrahigh strength within a high-temperature region exceeding 1300 deg.C can be produced. As a result, the beta-SIALON-based sintered compact useful as high-temperature structural materials such as various refractory materials, automotive engine members or gas turbine engines made of ceramics can be provided according to this invention. |
