Solid mass for scavenging mercury, comprising a solid inorganic support or dispersant and copper, at least partly in sulphide form, obtained by the following stages: a) at least one copper compound other than a sulphide is incorporated into a solid inorganic support or dispersant, b) the product obtained in stage a is optionally calcined so as to convert the copper compound(s) which it contains at least partially into copper oxide, c) at least one organic polysulphide of formula R-S(n)-R' in which n denotes an integer from 2 to 20, R denotes a hydrogen atom or an organic radical containing from 1 to 150 carbon atoms, and R' denotes an organic radical identical with or different from R, is incorporated into the product resulting from stage b or from stage a, and d) the product resulting from stage c, called precursor, is subjected to a heat treatment in a nonoxidising atmosphere, under gas purging, at a temperature and for a period which are sufficient to permit the formation of sulphide of the metal(s) present. l |
