PURPOSE:To finish an ink-filling operation for filling an ink supply system with ink and a discharge and recovery operation conducted thereafter in a short time at the time of setting and at the time of exchanging an ink cartridge. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus is provided with a pump 7 connected with a discharge and recovery apparatus 5, a DC motor 6 for driving the pump 7 and a control means 8 for adjusting the suction quantity of the pump 7 by changing a driving voltage sent out to the DC motor 6. Also, at least two pumps may be provided so as to be connected with the discharge and recovery apparatus 5 while a control means for selectively switch-operating respective pumps 7 may be provided and, according to a command from the control means, a high negative voltage in the ink supply system 9 may be formed at the time of setting and at the time of exchanging an ink cartridge and a low negative voltage in the ink supply system 9, at the time of discharge and recovery. |
