A trichosanthin is prepd. by (a) cutting rootstocks of Trichosanthes kirilowii and mixing the cut pieces in 70-100 mM buffer soln. (mixing ratio is 0.5-0.7:1), (b) filtering the mixt., mixing with 40-60 V/V% acetone or 20-80 % ammonium sulfate to obtain the protein precipitate and dialysing, and (c) purifying trichosanthin from the dialysed soln. by ion exchange column chlomatography. The obtd. trichosanthin is useful for the prodn. of 400d, drug etc..
