A method and control system for operating a chiller system having a lead compressor (14) and a lag compressor (14) in which the load on the compressors (14) is balanced by limiting the % KW demand on the lag compressor (14) from exceeding the 90 KW of the lead compressor (14) while forcing the lag compressor (14) to supply chilled water at a temperature lower than the lead compressor chilled water.
