Described is a ball bearing (3) for shafts subject to linear motion, in particular for vehicle-transmission gear-shift rods (2) held in place by a spring-biased securing element which acts radially on the rod. The invention calls for the outer bearing ring and the ball races enclosed by it to have a common radial gap through which one end of the securing element, which is in the form of a pin (4), projects and makes contact with the gear-shift rod (2). This design allows the securing element to act on the shaft in the immediate vicinity of the bearing.
