The car radio has a reception system (10), a control unit (14), and an amplifier and loudspeaker system (12). In addition it contains a speech memory (18) with interrogation facility for spoken messages. The speech memory can be pref. activated for automatic recording of traffic messages by radio traffic signals. Typically detectors of radio traffic signals, the activation for reception of the traffic messages, and the memory itself are continuously ON even with the radio OFF. The memory contents of the traffic message can be erased on arrival of a new radio traffic message, which can be overwritten.
