<p>A bearing pier foundation (8) for compacting soil, that includes a plug (10) extending along the longitudinal axis (11) having a first section (12) and a second section (14). The first section (12) is adapted to receive a pushing force for pushing the plug (10) into the soil and the second section (14) is adapted to rest on the soil to be compacted. A plane (40), which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (11), passes through the second section (14). The second section (14) includes a first part (100) and a second part (102). The first part (100) has an inner edge (108) and an outer edge (106) intersecting the plane (40). The second part (102) has an outer edge (114) attached to the first part inner edge (108). The second part (102) extends downwardly from the plane (40) and has a tapering segment (112) extending along the longitudinal axis (11). The bearing pier foundation can be used in combination with a hydraulic setting tool (210). Also disclosed is a method for installing the plug (10) and a sheath (300) into the soil.</p> |
