Guide casing for under calibrated projectile of fin stabilised type - comprises longitudinally extended segments each with a support fin angled to forward direction, avoids need for air pocket
摘要
Casing consists of a base body (1) made from several (normally 3) longitudinal segments (2) which are locked in a mesh around the projectile (not shown) forming part of longitudinal segments (2) are extended fins (7) sloped at a slight angle (Beta) to a nominal radial plane through the projectile centre. Fins (7) together with thickened forward guides (9) form a means for sepn. of guide casing from the projectile after it leaves the weapon barrel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Guide casing supports and guides under-calibrated projectile in the weapon barrel while it is accelerated by the explosive gases which are sealed in a piston like manner behind the projectile by the guide casing. The previously necessary air pocket is no longer needed so that the mass of the projectile can be reduced as can the mfg. expense. Loosening of the guide case segment after the projectile leaves the weapons barrel causes only a slight disturbance to its flight path.
