Ring spinning - utilises card cans to supply sliver with fibre in the trailing hook direction

A process in spinning on a ringframe which is supplied with sliver in card cans after it has been doubled and drawn. This process follows carding, and it is therefore laid in card cans several times. The number of changes of direction to and from the cans must be arranged so that the final feed into the ringframe is in the same direction as was received from the card. The appts. is also claimed. The card produces fibres (2) as a sliver, which is laid into card cans. The greatest part of the sliver consists of fibres which have been sepd. and laid in one direction. The ends of the fibre tend to curl, leaving a hook at the trailing end. The next stage is to double, where eight slivers may be laid together, and taken through the drawframe to produce a single sliver which is laid into another card can, but now it will be mostly fibre with leading hooks, that has gone through this process, and trailing hooks extracted, as was delivered by the card and therefore this is satisfactory for the ringframe. This single stage may not be of sufficiently high quality, and must be taken again through the drawframe, whereas a repeat may be too expensive. This is avoided by transferring from one can to another, thus attaining the trailing hook. By using a number of cards and drawframes, it is feasible to design a layout with continuous prodn. of sliver and always having card cans at the ringframe which have the correct direction of hooks. ADVANTAGE - The quality of the yarn depends on the direction of the greatest number of trailing hooks in the fibre. Output at the card has this character.
