3-Hydroxy-4-(1-oxo esp. 1-oximinoalk-l-yl)-phenoxyacetic acid derivs. of formula (I) their esters and amides are new. Where R = H, alkyl or aralkyl; X = O or NOH; Y = OH, OAlk, N(CH2)n or N(CH2)4O; n = 4 or 5; excluding cpds. where R = C6H13; X = NOH and Y = OH; and R = CH3; X = O and Y = OH. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) inhibit lipoxygenase enzymes and are antiasthmatic, antiallergic and antiphlogistic agents. 21 cpds. e.g. 3-hydroxy-4-(1'-oxoethyl)phenoxyacetic acid, (Ia) 3-hydroxy-4-(1'-oximinodec-l-yl) phenoxyaceticacid morpholide; and 3-hydroxy-4-(1'-oxodec-1-yl) phenoxyaceticacid morpholide are specifically claimed.
