Adjustable positioning of bearing shells in broaching machine - using workpiece holder positioned by first group of four cells between holder and frame and second group between frame and machine table

The bearing shell (20) is clamped in a workpiece holder (25) which is located in a frame (3) by opposed ball bearings (12, 13) allowing free but limited lateral movement. The workpiece clamping system consists of clamping fingers (21) connected by a linkage (22) to a power cylinder (23) at the top of the frame. Four hydraulic or piezoelectric positioning cells (40b,40c) provide translational adjustment of the workpiece holder in the X direction and rotational adjustment about the Z axis. The frame (3) is supported on the fixed machine table (62) by four further positioning cells (60c). These allow rotational adjustment of the workpiece about the X and Y axes. USE/ADVANTAGE - Positioning bearing shells in broaching machine. Adjustments in different axes are non-interacting. Cells are not subject to clamping force. Adjustment is precise and simple.
