Sealing of edges of insulation glass panes - by using light measuring device e.g. laser beam to monitor and control sealant thickness, providing automatic uniform thickness

Method of filling the edge gap between insulation glass panes (2,7) with sealant material (6), consists of moving a feeding nozzle along the gap and depositing the material. The thickness of the deposit is monitored by an optical device (13) and any deviation from the optimal thickness corrected by changing the speed of movement of the nozzle and/or the feeding speed of the sealant material. The optical device is esp. a laser beam whose reflected light intensity is measured. The light beam used is IR or near to IR light. ADVANTAGE - Uniform sealant thickness is automatically achieved.
