Disclosed is a hydrous zirconium oxide catalyst for the dehydration of alcohols of the general formula <IMAGE> to terminal olefins, as well as a method for preparing said catalyst. The catalyst provides high conversion of alcohol to olefin, high dehydration selectivity, and high selectivity for terminal olefin.
