<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of disclination at the effective display part of an active matrix type display device and to enhance the quality of display. CONSTITUTION:A counter electrode 42 part just faced to a gap between adjacent picture element electrodes 17 and 17 is projectingly formed by being made to project on an active matrix substrate 30 where the electrodes 17 are formed. Besides, a distance L1 between the projecting part 42a and the electrode 17 is set to be equal to or shorter than a separating distance L2 between the adjacent electrodes 17 and 17. Then, an electric field acting between the electrodes 17 and the electrode 42 is made strong and the electric field acting between the adjacent electrodes 17 becomes relatively weak. Thus, the line of electric force 60 generated at the end part of the electrode 17 becomes near a vertical ideal form with respect to the substrate 30 and the disclination is prevented from occurring at the effective display part.</p> |
