A method of interrogating a radar transponder, and transponder for implementing the method. The interrogating signals are in the form of codes consisting of two pulses separated by a time interval Tc and with carrier frequencies such that their difference DELTA fc is not zero. To each pair of values (Tc, DELTA fc), there corresponds a unique transponder capable of understanding the message intended for it. To achieve this, a radar transponder according to the invention includes means for measuring the difference DELTA f between the carrier frequency of a signal received at the current instant of time and that of the signal received at a time interval Tc beforehand, and means for comparing the measured value of DELTA f with the value DELTA fc assigned to the transponder.
