PURPOSE: To obtain a water-based agricultural composition formulated with an amine oxide surfactant, and reduced in the irritancy to animal eyes and the corrosiveness to metallic materials. CONSTITUTION: This water-based is obtained by mixing a toxic agrochemical acceptable to the agriculture, e.g. a bactericide, fungicide, herbicide, plant growth regulator, with an amine oxide surfactant of formula I (R<1> is a 6-20C straight- chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl; R<2> to R<5> are each a straight-chain or branched lower alkylenyl; (a+b+c+d)=5-25); wherein R<1> is pref. a group derived from an acid selected from the group consisting of tallow acid, coconut acid, soybean acid, cottonseed acid, lauric acid, stearic acid, and mixtures thereof. The toxic agrochemical is esp. pref. a herbicide such as N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine or 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. The compound of formula I is prepared by oxidizing a tertiary amine surfactant of formula II.
