PURPOSE:To directly find out a feature variable corresponding to all picture elements in an object image by means of chain codes without requiring correction by detecting respective tracking directions as respective chain codes at the time of tracking the centers of respective boundary picture elements forming the contour of the objective image. CONSTITUTION:Chain codes detected by tracking the contour of an object image by a contour tracking means 7 are stored and the feature variable of the object image is computed by an arithmetic means 9 based upon the chain codes. The geometric features of respective boundary picture elements in the object image are respectively determined based upon the chain codes obtained when respective boundary picture elements themselves are tracked and the chain codes obtained at the time of tracking the boundary picture elements next to respective boundary picture elements. Then the arithmetic means 9 is allowed to compute the feature variable of the objective image based upon the geometric features of respective boundary picture elements. |
