The invention relates to an apparatus for automatically fitting a seal, including a means for fitting a seal allowing a seal coming from a stock to be delivered with a single push. In accordance with the invention, the apparatus (1) includes a horizontal support plate (100) which can be moved in vertical translation, the said plate including an axial positioning head (200) equipped, on the one hand, with a telescopic centering spindle, the lower end of which is extended by a bell intended to interact with the handwheel of the valve for setting on the vertical axis of the valve, and, on the other hand, with a pivoting fork (230), the tilting of which is controlled by the bell forming a stop for bearing on the tightening square of the said valve; the horizontal support plate (100) also includes a rotating head for angular positioning and fitting a seal (300), capable of rotating, with a certain degree of angular travel, about a vertical axis (Z') coaxial with the telescopic centering spindle, this head carrying, on the one hand, the means for fitting a seal (MPJ) and, on the other hand, a means for angular positioning (310) intended to interact with two opposite facets of the tightening square.
