The packs (28) are passed in succession to a turning station (10) where the oppositely moving turning guides (14) act on the diametrically opposite corner or edge areas of the packs. The turning guides are attached to a continuously rotating turning conveyor (13) whose drive matches the incoming supply of packs to be turned. When the packs are flat with the front facing upwards and the back facing downwards the pressure or shear forces act in opposite directions in the area of the narrow long sides directly adjoining an endface on one side and a base face on the other.
