The rail vehicle has profiled track wheels (5) supporting the chassis (1) which has a pneumatic suspension system (3) for the carriage or waggon (2). The weight of the latter is partially compensated by a magnetic system (6,7) to reduce the load on the track wheels. This magnetic system uses an armature rail (6) extending alongside the track (4) cooperating with a pair of permanent magnet poles (7.1) attached to the chassis. An associated ferromagnetic core (8) exhibits a variable magnetic resistance to obtain the required load compensation.
