This invention relates to a process for the production of polyolefins using a pulsatile flow reactor which is an elongate tubular vessel of substantially circular cross-section and is provided with baffles mounted on the inner walls of the vessel and projecting in a direction substantially transverse to the walls of the vessel. A cationic polymerisation catalyst is used. The process can be used for producing polyolefins such as polybutenes which in turn can be used for producing lubricating or fuel oil additives. <IMAGE>
