<p>The invention relates to a protection system for a mechanical multiplier/reducer assembly, in particular of the helicopter "transmission gearbox" type, in the event of loss of lubricating oil, which includes an additional system for cooling of the enclosure of the said mechanical assembly, with an inlet (1) and an outlet (2) arranged on the casing (3) of this mechanical assembly. The inlet (1) and the outlet (2) are closed during normal operation and they open under the action of a control device at a predetermined value of a parameter representing the loss of lubricating oil, this control device then simultaneously putting the additional cooling system into operation, so that there is a circulation of the cooling agent between the inlet (1) and the outlet (2), so that this cooling agent, being charged with the energy resulting from the heating entailed by the loss of the lubricating oil, can remove it to the exterior through the outlet (2) of the additional cooling system, which is of the air circulation type.
