<p>A locking mechanism for a vehicle seat slide enabling the seat to be moved in a fore-and-aft direction but locked in any position between end limits. The mechanism comprises an elongated member in the form of a tube (1) adapted to be fixed to the vehicle floor and two members (9,10) each having a frusto-conical surface (3 or 4), each member (9,10) encircling the tube (1) and fixed to the seat base (2). A ring of balls (5 or 6) each in a cage (24 or 23) is wedged between each frusto-conical surface (3 or 4) and the tube (1) by a biassing device (20, 21), thus preventing movement. A release handle (7) causes the force applied by the biassing device (20,21) to be removed and the seat is then capable of being adjusted to its new position. <IMAGE></p> |
