Coal is gasified in a gasifier 22 forming part of a reactor 20. The resulting reducing gas flows to a shaft furnace 24 where it reacts with iron ore to form iron and a reacted gas comprising carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapour. A hydrogen product is separated from the reacted gas in a membrane separation plant 42. A carbon dioxide product may also be separated from the reacted gas. <IMAGE> |
